Barb Block
Bookkeeper
Read Bio
Barb grew up on a small farm in Dubuque, Iowa in a Catholic family of nine children. She regularly attended church; however, she grew to understand God as something powerful but distant, and that He would grant prayer requests only if she were behaving. Through turbulent teen years and early twenties, she distanced herself from God. After many selfish years, she began questioning the real purpose of life and also God's existence. In 1990, a teacher at the local community college, where Barb worked, befriended her and started talking about Jesus as a friend and a personal Savior. She taught Barb John 3:16....about God's forgiveness and love, and the incredible sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, on the cross for her, personally. Early in 1991, when the U.S. entered a mid-East crisis, she thought to herself, "If the world were to end today, or if I were to die today, where would I end up? Would I perish in Hell or go to Heaven?" Understanding that Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6), she gave her life to the Lord! Though her Christian walk hasn't always been easy, she's learned that she grows the most in times of trial. God is an awesome God who can do incredible things in our lives if we trust and obey Him. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Christy Leverentz
Admissions Director
Read Bio
Christy is so grateful to have grown up in a Christian home where she was taught about the Lord Jesus at an early age.  Both of her parents demonstrated a disciplined godly life, serving Him and others in ways that she still tries to emulate. She accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was seven years old, but rededicated her life to Him as a freshman in high school.  When she chose Emmaus Bible College, she planned to only receive her one year Bible certificate. Thankfully, Emmaus had begun their Elementary Education Degree, which she graduated with three years later.

Her first teaching job was in second grade at Tri-State Christian School, and she thoroughly enjoyed her teaching experience!  She was grateful for the supportive families and close- knit faculty and staff. She married her best friend, KT Leverentz, after her first year of teaching and they both taught at Tri-State for four more years. In 2002, she stayed home with their first born and loved being a stay-at-home mom and a homeschool parent for 15 years.  She has four wonderful children, who are all enrolled at Tri-State Christian School. Christy is excited to be back at Tri-State in a new capacity as the Admissions Director.  Her family enthusiastically fellowships and serves at The Great Adventure Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Heather Taylor
Kindergarten
Read Bio
Heather came to know the Lord at an early age through the godly influence of her parents, Sunday school teachers and school teachers. They instructed her in God’s Word, but more importantly they set godly role models that she found consistent with the Scriptures. She is so excited to be part of that molding process as she partners with parents at Tri-State Christian School. Her family has been involved with Galena Bible Church for over 20 years where they enjoy going to church with many families from Tri-State Christian School.

Heather began teaching full time at Tri-State in 2012 but has been associated with the school for many years, first by running the hot lunch program for the previous ten years and then by substitute teaching in all different grades for many years. When the oldest of her six children started his senior year in 2012, she felt the next natural step the Lord had for her was to join all of her children at Tri-State as a teacher.

Heather graduated from Wheaton College, is ACSI certified, and is currently working on a master’s degree in elementary education from Grand Canyon University, a Christian College.

Becky is originally from Dubuque and blessed to have been raised in a Christian home.  While under the teaching of her grandmother’s Sunday School class, Becky came to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus.  After attending Lake Geneva Youth Camp during her high school years, she re-dedicated her life to serving the Lord.

After receiving her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from UNI,  Becky served 8 years in the Dubuque Community Schools as a substitute and second grade teacher.  In 2003 she had the pleasure of becoming a stay-at-home mom when she and her husband Randy celebrated the arrival of their first son, Benjamin. They welcomed the arrival of their second son, Nicholas, a few short years later.  As the boys grew, Becky worked part time as a receptionist at Emmaus Bible College.

Becky is thrilled that God has answered the longing in her heart to return to the classroom and teach in a school where His Word and Truths can be shared freely and openly. She is overjoyed to be the second grade teacher at Tri-State Christian School.

Jamie was raised in a Christian home and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was six. She grew up being educated in the public school system, but knew she wanted to attend a small, private Christian College. When she graduated from high school, she went on to attend Emmaus Bible College where she studied the Bible for a year. After graduating with her one-year certificate, she returned home to attend a small community college. In the fall of 2006, she returned to Emmaus to finish her degree in Elementary Education.

Upon finishing her degree, she took a job as a teacher’s aide in the autism program at Eisenhower Elementary School in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked as an aid for four years, but felt the Lord was calling her to serve somewhere else. In 2012, she accepted the Second Grade position at Tri-State Christian School.  It is important to her that she be in an environment where academics and strong Biblical teaching are the foundations of a child's learning. Sharing the love of Christ with her students and their families is a gift she is truly thankful for.
